Indonesia defends QRIS amid US trade barrier claims

Indonesian regulators are doubling down on their ambitious QR payment expansion, even as US officials label QRIS a trade barrier. The central bank and government officials are planning regional partnerships from Japan to Saudi Arabia, wading through international criticism with a mix of defiance and a wry smile, as if to say, “Good luck keeping up!”
Future collaborations are planned with Japan, India, South Korea, China, and Saudi Arabia.
The report, released by the US Trade Representative, identifies QRIS as a trade barrier.
